Steve Wulf made a serious cock-up in his column about Newtown High School's girls basketball team, which you can all peruse here: http://espn.go.com/espnw/8967905/newtown-girls-basketball-team-fulfilled-mission

Now skip to the second-to-last paragraph. "There won't be a state title for Newtown this year. It won't even play in the postseason. But the Nighthawks did win their last six games to finish the regular season 13-7..."

Connecticut state playoff brackets come out tomorrow, and Newtown's currently ranked 17th with the 13-7 record mentioned in the column. The CIAC only requires a .400 record for girls basketball, so how in the fuck did he get the idea that a 13-7 team wouldn't be in the state playoffs? The CIAC's own site says they're in, and I've never heard of a team withdrawing from the Connecticut playoffs for any reason, never mind for tragedy-related purposes. (Never mind that they already lost to Lauralton Hall, one of those private schools that beats the shit out of public schools for fun and profit, in the conference playoffs, so they already played in the postseason.)

I've already tried to reach out to ESPN for a clarification/correction, so now it's time for Deadspin to do the voodoo that you do.
